Description of Services
- 8:00 am Holy Eucharist (said)
Eucharist is the Greek word for thanksgiving. At the Eucharist we give thanks for Jesus’ gift of himself in the form of bread and wine as spiritual food for the baptised. The 8:00 am Eucharist is a traditional said service with a sermon but no hymns. It captures the reflective and meditative feel of the early morning.
- 10:00 am Holy Eucharist (choral)
The Eucharist is structured around the actions of taking, blessing, breaking, and sharing the gifts of bread and wine as the body and blood of Christ. The 10:00 am Eucharist is a solemn and choral service. Many portions of the service are sung by the priest and congregation as led by the Church choir. Anthems from the long choral tradition of Anglican Church music are featured.
- Morning and Evening Prayer
The daily round of Christian prayer is divided into ‘offices’ or services reflecting the atmosphere and tempo of different times in the day. The Book of Common Prayer offers services for Morning, Midday, Evening, and Night Prayer. These link the pattern of our day, and our circadian (body) rhythm with an intentional sitting into the presence of God. The daily round of prayer is called Common Prayer to distinguish it from personal prayer. Common Prayer is the prayer of the whole Church and there isn’t a time in the 24-hour cycle when Christians from liturgical traditions somewhere in the world are not participating in the Common Prayer of the Church. When we participate in Morning and Evening Prayer it is like plugging-into the worldwide electrical circuit of Common Prayer.
- All Age Family Parish Eucharist
This service is held on the first Sunday of every month at 10am. It last for only 40 minutes. It is very popular and is very well attended. Do join us!
- The Celtic Parish Eucharist (Loaves and Fishes Sunday)
This service is also very popular. It is celebrated on the 3rd. Sunday of every month at 10am. It is put together by the Iona Community and the Northumbria Trust. The words and phrases in the service are very different from the usual Common Worship Eucharist, and therefore act as a good source for reflection and contemplation on how and why we celebrate Eucharist together. Do join us. Also, at this service, non-perishable food is collected from any who wish to contribute, and during the ensuing week it is taken to the Food Bank at St. Augustine’s Church, Tunbridge Wells, to be shared with those in need.
